What is Section 504?

“No otherwise qualified individual with a disability . . . shall solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance. . .”

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is essentially a federal civil rights law that prohibits any government funded programs to discriminate against children and adults of all ages who are affected and suffering from different types of disability by excluding them just because of their disabilities.

How can my child benefit from Section 504?

ELIGIBILITY

Section 504 requires schools to provide a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to qualifies students who have a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.
