What Is New State Sickle Cell Advocacy Network, Inc. (NYSSCAN)?
The New York State Sickle Cell Advocacy Network, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization, serving children and families with special health care needs. It focuses on those with Sickle cell conditions; providing such families and individuals with networking support advocacy, and activities enabling them to make positive changes when they feel overwhelmed.
Who Can Be A Member Of NYSSCAN?
Membership in NYSSCAN is open to individuals 18 years and older, immediate and extended family members, caregivers, and private citizens with interest and active concern for those with Sickle Cell general disorders. Members may include representatives of churches, social service, professional associations, and other health care provider groups.
How Can I Become A Member Of NYSSCAN?
General members are expected to attend general meetings. To participate in at least one committe, and to pay dues and special assessments, however, no individual with Sickle Cell disease may be denied membership or voting privileges if they cannot pay dues or special assessments. Dues are assessed annually and shall apply from March through February of the following year.
Those desirous of membership must fill out an application, giving information about themselves, affiliations and associations with other organizations. Members must comply, accept, and respect the policies of NYSSCAN and refrain from using the name and or the logo of NYSSCAN, without the approval of the board of directors.
What Are The Rights Of General Members?
To elect the corporate officers.
To raise any issue or questions that they may have.
To make recommendations to the Board of Directors of the advisory council, the staff, the committees, and volunteers.
To propose amendments to the by-laws of NYSSCAN
To receive a bi-annual NYSSCAN newsletter and periodic information, concerning the structure, policies, and activities of NYSSCAN.
Membership Dues
Individuals — $25 (1 year), $40 (2 years), $60 (3 years)
Doctors and other Medical Professionals/Organizations — $200
Community Organizations/Groups — $100
